About this class

It is rare to find a class that offers the opportunity to study the entire Qurʾān in the space of a few years and this is precisely what this class offers. Each lesson provides a special focus on themes, lessons, benefits, rulings and principles. Term 18 will resume from Sūrah al Qaṣaṣ on Thursday, 3/4/25, 19:30-21:30 BST.

Topcis & Objectives

Each student will:

  • Develop a better understanding of the Qurʾān

  • Learn the major themes of each chapter

  • Understand the structure of each chapter and see how sections of each chapter are related to one another.

  • Learn overarching Qurʾānic principles

  • Learn fiqhi rulings derived from the Qurʾān

  • Learn the meanings of the more difficult words and phrases.

FAQ

  • Who is this course for?

    There are no requirements for this class. No knowledge of Arabic is required and the class is suitable for people of all levels.

  • How are the classes delivered?

    The classes are delivered live via Zoom using high quality audio and visuals. The classes are interactive allowing students to ask questions via both audio and the chat box. Moreover, the class will have a dedicated Telegram channel allowing students to engage with the teacher throughout the duration of the course. The class will be delivered in English.

  • How long is the course for?

    This is an open-ended class and so there is no completion date for finishing the entire Qurʾān. However, we envisage that it will take a few years to complete the entire Qurʾān. We aim to cover approximately 2-3 pages of the Qurʾān per lesson. ​ Students are required to register & pay for each term. ​ Time and Dates for this term: ​ Thursdays, 7:30-9:30pm BST. Resuming: 3/4/25. Duration: 16 week Term

  • Will there be assessments?

    There will be weekly assessments assigned in the form of short multiple choice questions.

  • Is live attendance mandatory?

    No, although it highly encouraged. If a student misses a class they can view the recording for the lesson on the student portal. Please note, each recording will remain on the student portal for 2 weeks only. We do not provide lifetime access to our classes as we expect students to view the classes on a regular basis and complete the course within the term time.

  • Can I get access to previous recordings?

    We do not currently offer recordings for previous terms openly, however, if a student registers for a current term and does well in the weekly assessments, we can arrange access to previous terms.

Instructor

Alomgir Ali

Alomgir Ali is a graduate of Islamic Law (BA) from the University of al Azhar al Sharif (Cairo, Egypt) and also holds a BA in Arabic and English Language. He possesses a number of Ijāzahs (licenses) including for the Qur'ān and has authored and translated a number of books including "Meadows of the Divine: 40 Ḥadīth on the Virtues and Rulings of the Qur'ān" published by Fig Tree Publications. He has been teaching Arabic and Islamic disciplines for nearly 20 years in various educational institutions and has worked as an Imām in London and has delivered sermons and lectures in the UK and Europe. He set up Tawfiq Online Learning, an online learning platform in 2019, where he currently teaches .
